Urgent Alert: Lucknow Grapples with Surge as 31 New Dengue Cases Reported
Dengue Cases Surge in Lucknow: 460 Cases Reported Since January 2024
Lucknow, Sep 30, 2024 — The city has seen a significant spike in dengue cases, with 460 cases reported since January this year, according to data from the chief medical officer’s office. In the last 24 hours alone, 31 new dengue cases have emerged, pushing the weekend count to 70, following the discovery of 39 cases on Saturday.
Dr. Ritu Srivastava, the district malaria officer, reported that the city malaria unit’s weekend surveys identified 20 homes—14 on Sunday and six on Saturday—as potential mosquito breeding sites. The efforts to control the outbreak included inspections of 1,686 houses on Sunday alone, where insecticide spraying was carried out.
Teams from the chief medical officer’s office also engaged with residents during these visits to promote preventive measures. They advised the community on practices such as changing water in coolers, regularly cleaning and covering water containers, and applying mosquito repellent to curb the spread of the mosquito-borne disease.
With the dengue cases continuing to rise, authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and proactive in their efforts to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds and prevent further spread of the disease.
