Sainik Welfare Supports 250+ Veteran Families Hit by Upper Assam Floods
The Directorate of Sainik Welfare, Assam has launched an outreach drive to assist people affected by the recent floods in Upper Assam, with special emphasis on supporting veteran families. As part of the effort, the Directorate donated Rs 25 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and, over the past two weeks, reached more than 250 veteran families across over 40 villages in Sivasagar, Charaideo and Jorhat districts.
Veterans and volunteers joined forces to access flood-hit areas and distribute essential supplies, drinking water, medicines, relief materials and direct financial aid. The teams prioritized vulnerable groups, including children, senior citizens, persons with disabilities and families displaced by the floods.
Brigadier Polash Choudhary, SM (Retd), said veterans “have always stood for service and solidarity” and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the people of Upper Assam during the crisis. He also acknowledged the support received from HQ 41 Sub Area/101 Area, which assisted the Directorate in implementing the outreach programme and aiding veteran families in need.
The outreach was carried out by the Zila Sainik Welfare Offices of Sivasagar, Jorhat and Dibrugarh in coordination with local administrations, community groups, volunteers and relief agencies to ensure help reached those most affected.
The Directorate has appealed to individuals, organisations and well-wishers to contribute to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, noting that financial donations, essential supplies and voluntary service can provide meaningful support to flood-affected families across Upper Assam.
