Nagaland Governor Urges Regular Blood Donation — Save Lives Now
Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav on Friday, June 12, urged residents to become regular blood donors, calling every unit of donated blood a “gift of hope” for patients in need of life‑saving transfusions. He made the appeal while addressing a programme organised ahead of World Blood Donor Day, which is observed annually on June 14.
Yadav emphasised the vital role of voluntary donors in maintaining a safe and sustainable blood supply. “Voluntary donors form the backbone of a safe and sustainable blood supply system that supports patients requiring transfusions. Their selfless service deserves the highest appreciation and continued support,” he said.
The Governor encouraged greater public participation in blood donation drives, saying that regular donation not only saves lives but also strengthens healthcare services across the state. He underlined the need for ongoing community support to ensure timely availability of blood for emergencies and routine medical care.
Sharing a personal note, Yadav said he has donated blood 36 times over the years, often choosing to give on his birthdays as a way to mark the occasion and inspire others.
Margaret Yhome, Director of the Nagaland State Blood Transfusion Council, said World Blood Donor Day aims to raise awareness about the importance of safe blood and blood products and to recognise the contribution of voluntary donors. She called for continued efforts to promote voluntary blood donation so healthcare requirements are met and safe blood remains accessible to patients across Nagaland.
