Singapore Charges Indian-Origin Man Over Shocking Abusive Emails to MP
A 72-year-old Singaporean of Indian origin, Manickam Manohar, was charged on Thursday, June 11, 2026, in a Singapore court with six counts under the Protection from Harassment Act for allegedly sending abusive and accusatory emails to a Member of Parliament and town council officials. The charges relate to messages sent to the Marsiling–Yew Tee Town Council between August 19 and October 6, 2025.
Prosecutors say the emails included repeated allegations and insulting language directed at Hany Soh, a Member of Parliament of Chinese origin. The messages allegedly accused Soh of “receiving cheating money”, “misusing her MP power unnecessarily by keeping a criminal”, and said she “behaves exactly like a criminal.”
Manohar is also accused of sending abusive emails to a town council employee of Chinese descent, calling him a “useless manager” and falsely alleging “stealing” and “cheating.” Authorities say the conduct targeted public servants carrying out their official duties.
The police noted on Wednesday that Manohar had previously been investigated for similar offences under the Protection from Harassment Act involving the same MP and various town council staff. In a statement, police urged members of the public with municipal or public service concerns to use appropriate official channels and underlined a zero-tolerance stance toward harassment of public officers and town council employees.
Under the Protection from Harassment Act, offenders who use or communicate abusive words or materials toward a public servant may face a fine of up to SGD 5,000 and a jail term of up to 12 months. Manohar’s case is scheduled to be heard again on July 9, 2026. With inputs from agencies.
