East Siang Intensifies District-Wide Malaria Awareness Drive
Anti-Malaria Month (AMM) 2026 was formally launched at the Pasighat Municipal Council Conference Hall on Monday, June 1, kicking off a month-long campaign across East Siang district to strengthen malaria prevention and raise awareness about vector-borne diseases. The programme, organised by the District Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (DVBDCP), East Siang, will run from June 1 to June 30 under the theme “Driven to End Malaria: Now We Can, Now We Must.”
Organisers said the campaign will include a series of awareness, outreach and community engagement activities across the district aimed at reducing mosquito breeding sites, promoting early diagnosis and ensuring timely treatment. The initiative seeks to mobilise citizens, health workers and local institutions to support sustained malaria prevention and control measures.
Er. Tapi Darang, MLA of the 38th Pasighat East Constituency, attended the inaugural event as chief guest. Tagom Padung, chief councillor of Pasighat Municipal Council, was present as guest of honour, and Kamin Lego, deputy chief councillor, attended as special guest. In their addresses, the dignitaries emphasised the critical role of public participation, environmental sanitation and heightened community awareness in achieving malaria elimination.
Officials from the DVBDCP delivered a detailed presentation on malaria prevention and control strategies and provided an overview of the current malaria situation in East Siang district, underlining the need for continued vigilance and community involvement in fighting malaria and other vector-borne diseases.
The event was attended by Dr Y. Y. Pertin, District Medical Officer, East Siang; Jayanti Pertin, Municipal Executive Officer of Pasighat Municipal Council; programme officers from the Health Department; councillors; municipal and district medical office officials; healthcare workers; and students from Government UPS School, Gumin Nagar. Organisers said the broad participation of elected representatives, municipal officials, health personnel and students reflected a collective commitment to advancing malaria prevention and working toward a malaria-free East Siang.
