Assam’s Manas Park Closes to Tourists from June 5 — Monsoon Alert
GUWAHATI: Manas National Park in Assam will be closed to tourists from June 5, 2026, until further notice as authorities suspend all ecotourism activities ahead of the monsoon season, the Manas Tiger Reserve said in an official order issued on May 16, 2026. The move was announced by the reserve’s administration to allow habitat management work and reduce human disturbance during heavy rains.
During the closure, all visitor services inside the reserve will be suspended, including jeep safaris, elephant safaris and boating. The order makes clear that no tourist operations will be permitted within park limits until a subsequent notice lifts the restriction.
Officials said the decision follows guidelines issued by the National Tiger Conservation Authority under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. The order was signed by C. Ramesh, Chief Conservator of Forests and Field Director of Manas Tiger Reserve.
Forest authorities described the annual monsoon closure as a routine conservation measure intended to protect wildlife and support necessary management activities that are difficult to carry out safely during the rains. They said the pause in tourism helps minimise stress on animals and reduces risks posed by swollen rivers and slippery terrain.
Manas, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of India’s prominent wildlife reserves and a key ecotourism destination in the Northeast. Visitors, tour operators and local communities have been asked to heed the closure and await official communication on reopening.
