Assam Ministers Sworn In with New Portfolios — Major Shakeup
Guwahati — Four ministers who were sworn in alongside Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma have been formally assigned portfolios, marking the first phase of the new Assam ministry ahead of an expansion after the state assembly’s opening session. The allocations focus on social welfare, rural development, security and sectoral priorities tied to the state’s key communities.
Rameshwar Teli, a former Union Minister of State, has been given charge of labour welfare, tea tribes and adivasi welfare, and the transformation and development department. Ajanta Neog, who previously held the finance portfolio, has been moved to the women and child development and tourism departments.
Atul Bora, who served as agriculture minister in the previous government, will now oversee panchayat and rural development, the implementation of the Assam Accord, border protection and development, and excise. Charan Boro retains his existing responsibilities for transport and the welfare of Bodoland.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will continue to hold all other departments until the ministry is expanded after the first assembly session concludes on May 26. The early allocations underscore the government’s immediate focus on tribal and rural welfare, implementation of the Assam Accord and border-related development.
