
NEC Invests Rs 1,500 Cr in 2025–26 to Transform Northeast Connectivity
The North Eastern Council (NEC) on Wednesday, April 22 said it recorded an expenditure of nearly Rs 1,500 crore in the 2025–26 financial year, with total spending amounting to Rs 1,496.78 crore as the council stepped up investments in infrastructure and development across the Northeast. The announcement highlights the council’s emphasis on improving connectivity and strengthening core sectors in the region.
Of the total outlay, Rs 792.12 crore was spent under the Schemes of NEC (SoNEC) and Rs 704.66 crore under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS‑Roads), reflecting a dual focus on sectoral programs and road infrastructure.
During the year, the NEC sanctioned 54 new projects amounting to Rs 435.22 crore. These projects span higher education, health infrastructure, agriculture and horticulture, tourism, and livelihood generation, indicating a broad approach to regional development.
In addition to project funding, the council approved 162 non‑project activities totaling Rs 24.06 crore to support complementary development initiatives.
Officials said the spending pattern underscores continued efforts to strengthen infrastructure and promote balanced growth across the eight northeastern states, with targeted allocations intended to improve connectivity, public services and livelihood opportunities.
