Sikkim CM Tamang Hails Civil Servants as Governance Backbone
On April 21, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang extended warm greetings to the state’s civil servants on National Civil Services Day, praising their role as the backbone of governance and noting that their work turns government policy into tangible results for citizens. In a message shared on social media, he invoked Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s description of civil servants as the “steel frame of India.”
Tamang thanked officers for their dedication and public service. “On the occasion of National Civil Services Day, I extend my warm greetings to all members of the civil services in Sikkim. Your dedication remains the backbone of governance,” he said, urging continued commitment to effective administration.
Civil Services Day is observed annually on April 21 to mark the day in 1947 when Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s first Home Minister, addressed probationers of the Administrative Services in Delhi and highlighted their central role in nation-building.
The Chief Minister called on officials to uphold the highest standards of integrity, professionalism and accountability, and to strengthen public trust by delivering meaningful outcomes for citizens. He added, “I extend my sincere gratitude to every civil servant and together, let us continue building a transparent, responsive, and progressive Sikkim.”
Tamang’s message underscores the government’s emphasis on ethical administration and service delivery, reinforcing the idea that a trusted, accountable civil service is essential for effective governance and improved citizen outcomes.
