Tripura’s Early NCD Detection Drive Praised — Saving Lives Now
A Tripura government research initiative on non-communicable diseases (NCDs) received positive feedback from medical experts after its progress and outcomes were reviewed at a STAR NCD (Systematic Tracking and Action for Research in Non-Communicable Diseases) project meeting on April 17, officials said. The meeting was chaired by Health and Family Welfare Secretary Kiran Gitte.
The initiative, carried out jointly by several state government medical agencies, aims to improve early detection and treatment of NCDs such as diabetes, hypertension and cancer. Its first phase, called the Chief Minister’s Niramay Arogya Abhiyan (CMNAA), was conducted from January 1 to January 21.
According to officials, the programme is designed to strengthen screening mechanisms across the state and to ensure timely medical intervention for individuals identified with these conditions. Strengthened screening is intended to identify patients earlier and link them promptly to care.
State Programme Officer for NCD, Dr Abhijit Das, said the initiative’s implementation and impact were well received. “Medical experts present at the meeting appreciated the implementation and impact of the CMNAA initiative,” he said.
The review under the STAR NCD project examined both the campaign’s rollout and its initial outcomes, part of a broader push to use research and systematic tracking to guide interventions. Officials described the effort as a coordinated approach to combining screening, follow-up and data-driven action.
The state government said it is prioritising structured screening and research-based interventions to respond to the growing burden of non-communicable diseases, with the goal of improving early diagnosis, treatment coverage and long-term health outcomes for Tripura’s population.
