Manipur a ‘Mini India’: CM Yumnam Declares Senapati Visit Pivotal
Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh visited Senapati district and called for inclusive development to secure unity and lasting peace across Manipur, describing the state as a “Mini India” where diverse communities live together. During the visit he met civil society organisations from Naga-majority areas, thanked residents of Senapati, Mao and Kangpokpi for supporting government efforts to restore peace, and noted the region’s resilience and cooperation during trying times.
Singh’s trip to Senapati was altered by bad weather, forcing him to travel by road instead of by helicopter; the journey made him the first Chief Minister to reach Senapati via Kangpokpi since taking office. He used the visit to underline the government’s focus on balanced regional growth and to engage directly with local leaders and community groups.
Unveiling a package of development priorities, Singh announced plans for agricultural and economic transportation hubs and attended a reception organised by civil society where he reiterated the need for equitable progress. “The territorial integrity of Manipur has been safeguarded by the 36 communities inhabiting the state since time immemorial. Thus, Manipur is considered a Mini India,” he said, adding that “true progress can only be achieved when all districts develop alongside the capital.”
Invoking the late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s vision for the Northeast, Singh stressed that the region’s advancement is vital to the country’s overall development. He said a proposal by the Naga People’s Organisation to set up a medical college in Senapati would be placed before the state cabinet for consideration.
The Chief Minister also outlined multiple infrastructure initiatives, including district-level agricultural and economic transport hubs, a multi-purpose centre and the development of 75 Primary Health Centres. As part of the visit he laid foundation stones for 69 Anganwadi centres, authorised floodlighting for the Senapati Public Turf Ground and approved several community works, including new schools and water reservoirs.
On his return, Singh stopped at the residence of MLA Kahkhollet Kipgen in Hengbung, Kangpokpi district, reviewed ongoing development projects and assured continued government support. The visit underscores the state government’s renewed push for inclusive growth and infrastructure development across Manipur’s hill districts.
