Tripura Police Arrest Four Bangladeshi Nationals for Illegal Entry
Tripura Police arrested four Bangladeshi nationals on the morning of Tuesday, March 31, 2026, after they allegedly crossed into India through an unauthorized route at the Asharambari border and reached the Mahadebtilla area of Khowai district. Police said the group had paid a total of Rs 16,000 to brokers on both the Indian and Bangladeshi sides to facilitate the crossing.
Acting on a tip-off, officers carried out an operation that intercepted the four while they were traveling toward Khowai in an auto-rickshaw. “They were intercepted by police and security personnel dressed in white at Mahadebtilla and taken to Khowai police station,” officials said.
The arrested have been identified as Abdul Mia, 55, of Kakbhola in Moulvibazar; Shyamal Mia, 55; Helal Mia, 40; and Abdul Wasik, 24. Authorities said the four entered India via an unauthorized path at Asharambari before being apprehended.
The suspects are currently being questioned to establish the purpose of their entry and to identify any accomplices. A full investigation into the incident has been launched by local police.
