Mizoram’s 25,000+ Youth Unite in Historic Drug-Free Pledge
On March 31, 2026, the voluntary organisation Foundation for Drug-Free Mizoram marked its seventh anniversary with a street rally in Aizawl that drew more than 25,000 young people who pledged to remain drug-free. Held under the theme “A Better Life Without Drugs,” the campaign moved through the city neighbourhoods of Bawngkawn, Dawrpui, Khatla and Mission Veng to raise public awareness about substance abuse and prevention.
Participants marched through main thoroughfares, listened to speeches and publicly committed to staying away from drugs, organisers said. The event aimed to put youth engagement at the centre of local anti-drug efforts and to mobilise families, churches and community groups in support of prevention measures.
Key speakers at the rally included Rev. K. Lalpiangthara and Rev. C. Lalrochama, among other community leaders, who addressed the crowd and encouraged sustained community action. Organisers emphasised the importance of continued outreach and education to maintain the momentum created by the mass pledge.
The anniversary rally — combining public campaigning with a visible youth pledge — highlighted the organisation’s focus on community-led solutions to drug misuse and the role of civic participation in promoting healthier choices among Mizoram’s younger population.
