Major Manipur Police Crackdown: Insurgents Arrested, Arms Seized
Security forces in Manipur recovered a significant cache of arms and explosives and arrested multiple active cadres linked to proscribed insurgent groups during operations carried out on March 26–27 across Imphal West, Imphal East and Tengnoupal districts. Officials said the actions targeted militants operating near border and urban belts and led to several arrests and the seizure of weapons that, they believe, may have prevented potential attacks in the sensitive region.
A major recovery was made on March 27 in Moidangpok Khunou under Patsoi Police Station in Imphal West, where security personnel seized three locally made bolt‑action single‑barrel guns, two pistols with magazines, a 2‑inch mortar, four anti‑riot 38 mm cartridges, five rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, a bulletproof vest, a green belt and two bags. Authorities described the stockpile as tactical and potentially capable of being used in violent incidents.
In Tengnoupal district on March 26, forces arrested an active cadre of the proscribed People’s Liberation Army (PLA) between Border Pillars 78 and 79 under Moreh Police Station. The detainee was identified as Chongtham Nanao Singh, alias Khunou, 29, a resident of Kakching district.
On March 27, further arrests were made between Border Pillars 73 and 74, also under Moreh Police Station. The two apprehended operatives were named as Angom Lemba Meitei, aka Liklaingamba, 26, linked to the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), and Yumnam Boni Meitei, alias Yaitamba, 42, associated with the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL). Officials said both individuals are from Imphal East and Imphal West districts respectively.
The same day, an active cadre of the Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF)/PLA, identified as Chingakham Nongpoknganba Meitei, 21, was arrested from his locality under Lamlai Police Station in Imphal East; a mobile phone was seized during the operation. Separately, security forces arrested Thongam Premjit Singh, 49, an alleged United National Liberation Front (UNLF‑P) cadre, from his residence in Thangmeiband Kabrabam Leikai under Imphal Police Station. Singh is reportedly linked to a 2022 bomb explosion in Sagolband Takhellambam Leikai; officials recovered a mobile phone and an Aadhaar card from him.
Authorities said investigations are ongoing and that the seizures and arrests form part of sustained counter‑insurgency efforts in Manipur to disrupt militant networks and prevent violence.
