Illegal Brick Kilns Surge in Boko-Chaygaon: Urgent Pollution Alert
On February 13, Chamaria revenue circle officer Nandan Nilutpal Bhagawati sealed two licensed brick kilns — BKB and NKB — in Boko for failing to renew documents with the Pollution Control Board, a move that has stirred frustration among local residents who say enforcement appears inconsistent. Residents point out that while the licensed units were penalised for paperwork lapses, hundreds of unlicensed kilns in nearby Banglabhata continue to operate openly and are accused of polluting without facing similar consequences.
The disparity has prompted a sharp question from the community: why are legal operators being sanctioned for administrative infractions while allegedly unlicensed, openly polluting kilns remain untouched? For many residents, the issue is not only about compliance with permits but also about fairness, public health and environmental accountability in the area.
So far there has been no public response from the forest department, the Pollution Control Board, or the district administration to explain the differing treatment or to outline any plan for wider enforcement or inspection of Banglabhata kilns.
The lack of official comment has left citizens calling for clearer, consistent enforcement and transparency from authorities so that regulatory action applies evenly and community concerns about pollution and rule of law are addressed.
