Historic: 491 Land Pattas in Digboi — Mission Vasundhara 3.0
Digboi: At the Paragadhar Chaliha Auditorium in Muliabari on Wednesday, the Digboi district administration distributed 491 digital land pattas under the Mission Vasundhara 3.0 programme, handing formal ownership certificates to beneficiaries in a bid to strengthen land rights across Assam. Digboi MLA Suren Phukan, the chief guest, personally presented the documents; 379 of the pattas were institutional — issued to schools, healthcare centres and social organisations — while 112 were granted to individual residents.
The event is part of the third phase of the state government’s flagship Mission Vasundhara, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, which aims to benefit 30,000 families statewide after the success of earlier phases. The initiative focuses on securing legal land rights for indigenous residents, lawful citizens, educational and religious institutions, social organisations and tribal communities living on forest land. MLA Phukan said nearly one million people across Assam have already obtained land rights under the campaign and that the rollout will continue to expand.
Addressing the gathering, Phukan highlighted efforts to extend land entitlement to residents in tea garden areas and outlined development work carried out during his tenure, including the construction and repair of about 900 roads, reconstruction of more than 700 Namghars and 750 temples, and renovation of schools and colleges.
The programme was attended by several dignitaries, including Digboi Co-District Commissioner Phyllis V.L. Rangsall, Pavitra Bharali, Sanchita Chetia, educationist Hitendra Nath Sharma, Chairperson of Digboi Anchalik Panchayat Trishna Phukan Bairagi, Chairman of Digboi Municipality Sudvipta Dutta Chowdhury, along with panchayat representatives, administrative officers and community leaders.
Earlier the same morning, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated the new headquarters of the 6th Assam Police Commando Battalion at Ambikapur, Sadiya in Tinsukia district. The state-of-the-art campus was built at a cost of Rs 160 crore on 331 bighas and is designed to accommodate 400 commandos with comprehensive operational facilities.
The sprawling facility includes a three-storey commandant’s building, advanced barracks for 254 commandos, 149 residential quarters, surveillance towers, parade grounds with a gallery, shooting ranges, classrooms with computer labs, indoor sports complexes, hospitals, schools, ration and clothing shops, ATMs and Namghars. CM Sarma said the campus underlines the government’s commitment to strengthening the Assam Police and ensuring a safer state through modern training and readiness.
