Amit Shah’s Inspiring Message on National Science Day
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday extended his greetings to scientists and researchers across the country on National Science Day, lauding their role in innovation and nation‑building as national-level celebrations took place at Vigyan Bhawan. Posting on social media platform X, Shah wrote: “Greetings to all our scientists, researchers on National Science Day. Your quest lights our path shaping solutions for a better future. May this day renew our zest and resolve to innovate, build and craft destiny of our choice.”
Observed each year on February 28, National Science Day commemorates C.V. Raman’s 1928 discovery of the Raman Effect — a milestone in light‑scattering research that led to his Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930. The day has since become a national effort to foster scientific temper, encourage research and inspire young people to pursue careers in science and technology.
This year’s main programme, organised by the Department of Science and Technology, began with special lectures chaired by Principal Scientific Adviser Professor Ajay Kumar Sood. The event featured expert talks on critical national priorities: Dr Shubha V. Iyengar spoke on advances in indigenous aerospace and defence technologies; Dr K. Balasubramanian addressed the importance of critical metals and materials; and Shri Shashi S. Vempati discussed innovations in direct‑to‑mobile broadcasting.
A panel discussion examined the interface between science and public policy, with representatives from NITI Aayog, the Indian National Science Academy, CSIR institutions, CSTEP and IGSTC deliberating on aligning scientific research with national development goals. Sessions on communicating science in Indian languages and interactive “Face to Face with Scientists” engagements aimed to broaden public outreach.
Beyond marking a historic scientific achievement, organisers emphasised National Science Day’s broader purpose: promoting scientific thinking, strengthening the link between research and policymaking, boosting indigenous innovation, and ensuring inclusive participation — particularly greater representation of women in STEM.
