Jamia Defends Integrity: Viral ‘Nikaah’ Notice Exposed as Fake in Bold Stand Against Malicious Rumors
Jamia Millia Islamia has officially dismissed a circulated notification regarding the arrangement of ‘nikaah’ (Islamic marriage) for couples seen together during Ramadan, labeling it as a forgery. The dubious circular, which was shared widely on social media platforms like WhatsApp, claimed that the university would facilitate nikaah for any boy and girl spotted in proximity to each other during the holy month.
The university issued a stern statement rejecting the claims made in the circular, which was reportedly dated February 20, 2026. It emphasized that this notice is “totally fake” and asserted that no such directive has emanated from the institution’s authorities. Jamia Millia Islamia highlighted that the false notification appears to be an attempt to defame its reputation. Furthermore, the university has reported the situation to the cyber security branch of Delhi Police, seeking action against the spreaders of this misinformation.
According to the Assistant Registrar of Jamia Millia Islamia, the notification falsely suggested that interactions between males and females during Ramadan were strictly prohibited and would result in mandatory marriage arrangements. The official statement warned students and staff not to give credence to the misleading message circulating online.
The fabricated notice had claimed that “standing together in couple (boy and girl) is strictly prohibited,” further stating that couples found in violation of this would be responsible for arranging their own ‘Walima’ (wedding feast). The language used in the circular aimed to instill fear around the observance of Ramadan, a time marked by fasting, prayer, reflection, and community spirit among Muslims globally.
Ramadan began this year with the sighting of the crescent moon on February 18, with the first day of fasting observed on February 19. This month is integral to the Islamic faith, promoting spiritual growth and community cohesion through fasting from dawn until sunset and engaging in nightly prayers.
Jamia Millia Islamia’s response underscores the importance of verifying information before sharing it, especially in the digital age where misinformation can spread rapidly. The university’s commitment to maintaining a respectful and inclusive environment during this sacred period reflects its dedication to its values and duties as an educational institution.
In light of these developments, the university administration is actively encouraging its community to remain vigilant and critical of any such misleading information that may arise in the future, reaffirming its stance on maintaining the sanctity and integrity of university life.
