Swift Justice: Dramatic Joint Operation in Golaghat Uncovers IED, Culprits Nabbed
In a significant security operation, Golaghat Police, in collaboration with Charaideo Police and the 23rd Assam Rifles, successfully intercepted and recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at the Rangajan Tollgate, located within Golaghat’s jurisdiction. This operation was initiated following crucial intelligence indicating the possible transportation of explosives from Dimapur to Sivasagar.
During the strategic operation, law enforcement officers detained two individuals, Ajay Shyam, aged 29, and Tiken Kurmi, aged 27. The suspects were found transporting the IED in an autorickshaw with the registration number AS-05C/5734. Both individuals are reportedly surrendered members of the All Adivasi National Liberation Army (AANLA), a faction operating in the region.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Shyam and Kurmi allegedly procured the device from Nagaland, with intentions to orchestrate a detonation in Golaghat District. The timing was particularly alarming as the plan coincided with the Army Day of the United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA), observed on November 27.
Authorities have promptly registered a case and are delving deeper into the circumstances surrounding the incident. This prompt action underscores the vigilance of security forces in preempting potential threats and highlights the ongoing challenges in dealing with militant activities in the region.
As the investigation continues, the recovery of the IED raises pressing security concerns while also serving as a testament to effective inter-agency cooperation. This operation is a crucial step in thwarting potential threats to public safety in Assam, as efforts intensify to maintain stability and prevent acts of violence orchestrated by insurgent groups.
