Tripura’s Bold Commitment: Manik Saha’s Passionate Pledge to Preserve Indigenous Culture and Traditions
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has underscored the state government’s commitment to preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of its indigenous communities at a national level. Speaking at the Tripuri Cultural & Food Festival in Agartala, CM Saha emphasized ongoing efforts geared towards the welfare and development of the state’s Janjati population. He expressed delight in witnessing the richness of indigenous food habits, dances, and traditions, which he highlighted as vital for showcasing to the broader country.
Saha noted that the government is actively working to preserve this cultural heritage by providing training to artists and modernizing infrastructure related to indigenous communities. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for establishing a dedicated department for Janjati issues, reflecting a continued focus on the development of the North East. The state has renamed its Tribal Welfare Department to the Janjati Kalyan Department, reinforcing this focus.
Further, CM Saha revealed that his administration respects Tripura’s historical leadership and has proposed renaming the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council to the Tipra Territorial Council, seeking to increase its seat capacity from 28 to 50. Twelve Blocks have also been designated as Aspirational Blocks, aligned with PM Modi’s assertion that national development hinges on the advancement of Janjati communities.
Saha reiterated the state government’s sensitivity to Janjati needs, detailing plans to modernize hostels with sanitary facilities, CCTV cameras, and internet connectivity. The event was graced by other notable figures, including BJP State President and MP Rajib Bhattacharya, former minister and MLA Rampada Jamatia, Janjati Kalyan Minister Bikas Debbarma, and Bipin Debbarma, President of the Maharani Tulsibati Welfare Trust.
