Shocking Racist Texts Across US: Outrage as Donald Trump Effect Ignites Call to ‘Report to Cotton Plantation’
Following Donald Trump’s election victory, a troubling surge of racist text messages has emerged across the United States, targeting Black individuals with incendiary content. These messages, which horrifically refer to slavery and are addressed by name, demand recipients “report to a plantation” and even reference President-elect Trump. The FBI has launched an investigation in response to these alarming incidents, identified in at least nine states, with further reports from two additional states.
The New York Times reported that historically Black colleges such as Fisk University and Howard University, Vice President Kamala Harris’ alma mater, as well as other educational institutions, were heavily targeted. EJ Hunter, a parent of a Howard University student, expressed her distress, especially as the texts coincided with Harris’ concession speech.
Meanwhile, in Alabama’s Spain Park High School and other campuses, similar messages incited fear and unrest. Publicist Monèt Miller received a text shortly after the election results, underscoring the ongoing anxiety within communities. This wave of hostility is viewed as a manifestation of emboldened racist rhetoric following Trump’s election win.
Derrick Johnson, NAACP president, attributed the rise in such racist acts to Trump’s victory, suggesting a climate of increased boldness among hate groups. The offensive texts have sparked widespread concern and are drawing considerable attention to racial intolerance issues.
The FBI, in cooperation with the Justice Department, is actively investigating these incidents. New York Attorney General Letitia James reported similar messages sent across educational institutions in New York City, highlighting the widespread nature of this issue.
Amidst the uproar, Trump’s campaign has distanced itself from the messages, with spokesperson Steven Cheung denying any involvement. Nonetheless, the texts have spotlighted the persistent challenges of racial intolerance in America, particularly in the wake of the contentious 2024 election.
