US Election 2024: The Shocking Reason Judge Allows Elon Musk’s $1 Million-A-Day Voter Sweepstakes Despite Legal Battles
A Pennsylvania judge has ruled that Elon Musk’s $1 million-a-day voter sweepstakes, managed by his political action committee (PAC) in crucial swing states, can proceed through the upcoming presidential election. Despite District Attorney Larry Krasner’s claims that the initiative is a deceptive scam aimed at affecting the national election, Judge Angelo Foglietta allowed it to continue without providing an immediate reason. Musk’s legal team clarified that winners are actually paid spokespeople, not randomly picked, addressing a prior misunderstanding. Chris Gober, Musk’s attorney, specified that final recipients of the sweepstakes would be chosen in Arizona and Michigan, just before Election Day.
Krasner criticized the sweepstakes for potentially breaching state election laws, arguing it diverged from Musk’s public promise of a random selection process. The PAC director, Chris Young, testified that winners were pre-vetted to ensure value alignment with the group. Notably, winners were required to sign nondisclosure agreements and were not informed beforehand of receiving the substantial prize. Musk’s PAC has secured data from over one million participants across several key states, which has raised concerns about potential misuse.
While the judge’s ruling permits the sweepstakes to continue, Krasner may explore legal action and possible criminal charges. He underscored the significant overlap between the initial Pennsylvania winners and the state’s voter registration deadline, suggesting strategic intent. The controversial initiative, championed by Musk—also the face of companies like Tesla and SpaceX—ties into broader political dynamics as both major candidates, Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, make election-eve visits to Pennsylvania. Musk’s involvement is seen as instrumental in this electoral strategy, though future legal challenges loom.
