Revolutionary Leap: Minister Ranoj Pegu Unveils Empowering Mother Tongue Education for 6 Tribal Groups Starting Next Session
Guwahati: In a significant educational initiative, the Assam Education Department has announced plans to integrate mother tongue instruction for six tribal languages—Karbi, Mising, Rabha, Dimasa, Deuri, and Santhali—at the foundational stage starting from the next academic session. This move aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasizes the importance of native language learning at the elementary level.
A crucial meeting was held at Janata Bhawan involving State Education Minister Ranoj Pegu, officials from the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), and representatives from the literary bodies and autonomous councils of the aforementioned tribal groups. The participants discussed strategies for implementing the teaching of these languages effectively.
Minister Pegu emphasized the importance of adapting to educational advancements, noting that this initiative marks a step forward in embracing linguistic diversity in the state’s education system. The decision seeks to enhance learning experiences by fostering a strong foundation in students’ native languages, thus preserving cultural heritage while promoting inclusive education.
This development is seen as a progressive effort to support tribal communities, ensuring their languages and traditions are sustained within the academic framework, thereby benefiting future generations.
