Heartfelt Tributes Pour in as Former Minister TA Ngullie Passes Away: A State Mourns Together
TA Ngullie, a veteran politician and an eight-time legislator from Nagaland, passed away on October 27 in Chümoukedima. He was in his early nineties. Ngullie, who hailed from Mungya village, represented the 37-Tyui Assembly Constituency across multiple sessions of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, serving in various capacities including Finance Minister, and Minister of Revenue and Electricity, Agriculture, Horticulture, and Irrigation. He also held positions as Deputy Speaker and Leader of the Opposition. Ngullie’s vast contributions to the state’s political landscape were highlighted by his role in forming the North East Council and his steadfast dedication to public service, a commitment which saw him run as a BJP candidate in the 2013 Assembly elections.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Deputy Chief Ministers TR Zeliang and Y Patton led the state in mourning Ngullie’s demise. Rio praised Ngullie as a gentleman and visionary who championed the interests of all, particularly marginalized communities. His loss is seen as monumental for Nagaland, and Rio expressed hope that Ngullie’s legacy will continue to inspire.
Deputy CM Patton regarded Ngullie as a pioneer and visionary leader whose legacy is destined to be cherished for generations, while Zeliang described him as a remarkable leader embodying wisdom and compassion. NLA Speaker Sharingain Longkumer acknowledged Ngullie’s lifelong contributions, emphasizing his dedication to the welfare of the underprivileged.
State leaders conveyed their deepest condolences to Ngullie’s family, acknowledging the challenge of filling the void left by such a significant figure. A service honoring Ngullie was planned for Chümoukedima, with his remains later transported to Wokha and his native village. The state mourns the loss of a fatherly figure and guardian to many while cherishing the enduring legacy he leaves behind.
