Market Woes: Domestic Indices Slip Yet Again in a Disheartening 4th Consecutive Session
The domestic stock markets closed slightly lower today, extending losses for the fourth straight session. The BSE Sensex experienced a marginal decline of 17 points, ending almost flat at 80,065. Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty fell by 36 points, or 0.15%, to close at 24,399.
The broader Bombay Stock Exchange market also witnessed losses, with the Mid-Cap index dipping by 0.13% and the Small-Cap index down by over 0.5%. Within the Sensex, 19 out of 30 companies recorded gains. UltraTech Cement emerged as a top gainer, rising by over 2.5%, followed by Mahindra and Mahindra and Titan, which increased by 1.3% and 1.2% respectively. Conversely, Hindustan Unilever led the laggards, dropping by 5.8%, with Nestle and ITC also declining by 2.8% and 1.8% respectively.
In sectoral performance at BSE, 11 out of 20 sectors ended in the red. The FMCG sector suffered a notable loss of over 2.5%, while Realty and Telecommunication sectors slipped by 1.2% and 1% respectively. On the positive side, the Bankex saw gains of more than 0.5%, with Utilities, Healthcare, and Power sectors adding over 0.4%, and Financial Services up by 0.3%.
The overall market sentiment at BSE remained negative, with 1,584 companies advancing, 2,349 declining, and 100 unchanged. At the National Stock Exchange, 30 companies hit their 52-week high, while 88 reached their 52-week low.
This market performance reflects ongoing pressures and uncertainties, as investors continue to navigate a challenging economic landscape.
