City Hospital’s Inspiring Pink Wave Initiative: Celebrating 9 Years of Empowering Breast Cancer Awareness
In a spirited celebration of breast cancer awareness, the Gleneagles BGS Hospital marked the ninth anniversary of its ‘Pink Wave’ initiative with the ‘Pink Up the Pace 2024’ event. Distinguished Chief Guest Mr. Prakash Belwadi joined the oncology team, hospital management, and breast cancer survivors, known as Sheroes, in releasing balloons at the event in Bengaluru. The initiative aligns with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, commonly referred to as ‘Pink October’, and emphasises public education and patient support through events like Pink Ride cyclothons and Pink Up the Pace runs.
Breast cancer is a significant global health concern, impacting one in eight women during their lifetime. The event highlighted the importance of vigilance in early detection, particularly among women aged 30 and above. Participants were urged to integrate regular self-examinations, screenings, and annual tests into their healthcare routines. Dr. Sindhu, Senior Consultant Surgical Oncologist at Gleneagles, stressed the crucial role of awareness in safeguarding women’s health, emphasising that early detection can be lifesaving.
In collaboration with Run Addicts, Rotary Gnanakshi, Rotary District 3191, and SJB College of Management, the event drew nearly 1,000 participants despite the rain, underscoring community commitment to the cause. Published October 21, 2024.
