Darap Hosts Inaugural ‘Tongsum’ Village Tourism Festival
Gyalshing, Oct 17, 2024 [IST]: The picturesque Darap village in Gyalshing district today witnessed the launch of the inaugural ‘Tongsum’ Village Tourism Festival. With the theme "Where Hospitality Meets Heritage," the event is orchestrated by the Darap Tourism Development Committee (DTDC) to highlight the village’s rich cultural legacy and attract tourists.
Launched by Minister and area MLA Bhim Hang Subba, the festival aims to promote sustainable tourism that aligns with the preservation of local culture and natural beauty while fostering economic growth. During the opening ceremony, the minister underscored the necessity of sustainable practices in tourism and declared that the festival would be an annual affair, with future editions expected to feature more local elements.
Following the inauguration, dignitaries embarked on a village tour showcasing various exhibitions. Visitors had the opportunity to see locally grown flowers, handmade bamboo crafts, millet products from self-help groups, and traditional textiles. Cultural dance performances further enlivened the festival, immersing attendees in the vibrant traditions of Darap.
The ‘Tongsum’ Village Tourism Festival will continue until October 20, featuring a myriad of cultural events and exhibitions. These activities invite tourists and cultural enthusiasts to delve into the unique traditions and hospitality that Darap offers.
The festival also saw the presence of notable figures, including SKM Tourism Wing president Narayan Khatiwada, CLC president Tashi Wongyal Bhutia, DTDC president Shiva Gurung along with executive members, local panchayats, and other dignitaries.
With its blend of tradition and modern sustainable practices, the ‘Tongsum’ Village Tourism Festival is set to be a cornerstone event, celebrating and preserving the cultural heritage of Darap while promoting the growth of responsible tourism in the region.
