Shocking Disruption: Electoral Process Halted for Arunachal Student Union Sparks Outrage
The Deputy Commissioner of Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, has revoked the approval for the All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) electoral enrollment process, initially set for October 17 at Siddhartha Hall, Itanagar. This suspension is indefinite, pending further instructions. The revocation order, dated October 16, overrides an earlier approval granted to Lingdom Kioda and Lokam Andrew Tajo, who were authorized to manage the online enrollment for ANSU’s XVIth General Conference-cum-Election, 2024. This electoral process was intended to incorporate school delegates, Branch Students’ Unions (BSUs), District Students’ Unions (DSUs), and Nyishi elected leaders from the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU).
Simultaneously, the Nyishi Elite Society (NES), the central organization representing the Nyishi community, has actively addressed the existing issues within ANSU. To ensure smooth proceedings, the NES President has appointed the Former ANSU Executive Members Forum to oversee the forthcoming elections. This forum is trusted with the responsibility to monitor, supervise, and ensure that the electoral process remains peaceful, fair, and transparent. The intervention by NES is a response to recent tensions among different ANSU factions.
This decision underscores the rising tensions and pivotal nature of the upcoming ANSU elections, emphasizing the importance of maintaining order and transparency to prevent further disputes within the organization. The NES’s proactive actions aim to stabilize the situation and mediate factional unrest, reflecting the serious nature of the issues at hand and the effort to uphold democratic principles within student organizations.
