Omar Abdullah Urges Police for Compassionate Road Handling to Ease Public Inconvenience
New Delhi: Omar Abdullah, having recently assumed office as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, has prioritized minimizing public inconvenience during his road travels. On Wednesday, Abdullah instructed the police to avoid establishing “green corridors” or stopping traffic for his movements, emphasizing the need to minimize the inconvenience to the public. He also discouraged the use of aggressive gestures or stick-waving by security personnel. Abdullah urged his cabinet members to adopt the same measures.
Leading a National Conference-led government with the support of the INDIA alliance and four independents, Abdullah’s coalition with Congress secured a majority in the recent assembly elections. Abdullah reiterated his government’s commitment to serving the people and reducing public disruptions.
He communicated directly with the Director General of Police of Jammu and Kashmir to enforce these directives, underscoring his administration’s people-centered ethos. The oath-taking ceremony, officiated by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Saxena, included notable attendees such as Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, and other prominent leaders from the INDIA alliance.
Omar Abdullah, who served as Chief Minister from 2009 to 2015, now returns to office with a clear focus on public welfare and operational transparency in governance.
