In response to the World Health Organization’s declaration of Mpox (Monkeypox) as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC), Nagaland’s Department of Health & Family Welfare has taken proactive steps to address the situation. Commissioner and Secretary Anoop Khinchi convened an urgent meeting with the State Health Emergency Operation Centre Committee to assess and enhance the state’s public health preparedness.
During the meeting, state health officials presented a detailed evaluation of the current readiness levels across Nagaland’s health units. The focus was on equipping healthcare workers to effectively handle the potential threat of Mpox. Khinchi underscored the urgency of comprehensive preparedness measures, emphasizing the health department’s responsibility to act swiftly to mitigate the risks associated with any potential outbreak.
Khinchi stated, “The Health Department must act swiftly to ensure that all healthcare workers are prepared to address the challenges posed by Mpox.” His remarks highlighted the critical need for readiness, aiming to minimize the impact of an outbreak in the state.
The meeting served as a platform to strategize and implement necessary actions, ensuring that all frontline responders are well-equipped and informed. This proactive approach is crucial in managing the looming threat of Mpox and safeguarding public health in Nagaland.
Additionally, related concerns are being addressed in Nagaland, such as implementing strict measures to control the African Swine Fever outbreak in the Wokha district.
As Nagaland braces itself for potential health challenges, the Health Department’s initiatives reflect a commitment to protecting public welfare through effective planning and action.
