Transformative Milestone Achievements Celebrated at NFR Workshops | MorungExpress
Maligaon, October 14 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) witnessed remarkable advancements at its Dibrugarh and New Bongaigaon rolling stock workshops in September 2024, significantly enhancing service efficiency and operations. At the Dibrugarh Workshop, notable achievements included the modification of 13 coaches with new R3 air hose pipes—bringing the total to 59 for the fiscal year—and the completion of air suspension and FIBA modifications in 15 coaches, totaling 58 modifications this year. Air brake pipes with upgraded hoses were fitted in 21 coaches, with 85 modifications recorded this fiscal year. Fire detection systems were installed in four LHB AC coaches, with an accumulation of 37 installations. Additionally, 255 supervisors participated in a Vigilance Awareness Program, and a Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) exhibition showcased innovative models crafted from scrap materials. The workshop also took part in the “Swachhata Hi Seva” campaign, focusing on cleanliness and plastic pollution awareness.
In coaching outputs, the Dibrugarh Workshop exceeded its targets by completing 58 coaches, supplying 31 ICF and 35 LHB sets, and overhauling 540-wheel sets to improve maintenance efficiency. Additionally, they converted one ICF coach to an NMGHS coach, totaling 14 NMGHS coaches turned out this fiscal year.
The New Bongaigaon Workshop also marked significant achievements, including the inaugural repair of a refrigeration van and the deployment of a 1600 HP DEMU rake in a new blue scheme designed to decrease maintenance intervals. They developed an in-house test bench for the pressurized flushing system to handle passenger issues. The workshop completed the periodic overhaul (POH) of 60 coaches and equipped 144 wagons with twin-pipe air brake systems. The wheel shop supplied 117-wheel sets, with more ready for dispatch. Additionally, they achieved full compliance with Railway Board modifications across all coaches and wagons and contributed to scrap disposal by depositing around 380 MT of ferrous and 66 MT of non-ferrous scrap. The achievements were noted in a press release by Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer, NFR.
