Bitter Regret: CEO Reveals Why Launching Semiconductor Startup in Bihar Was a Disastrous Decision
Chandan Raj, the Founder and CEO of Suresh Chips and Semiconductor Pvt. Ltd., recently voiced his frustrations about establishing his semiconductor startup in Bihar, labeling it the “worst decision” of his life. Posting on platform X, Raj described Bihar as a “land of frustration” for semiconductor and Very-large-scale integration (VLSI) businesses, outlining numerous challenges faced in the state.
VLSI involves manufacturing integrated circuits with millions or billions of metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) transistors on a single chip. Despite the potential, Raj claims that lagging infrastructure in Bihar has deterred clients from collaborating with his company. He revealed a four-year wait for road and infrastructure development, highlighting a lack of support from authorities that, according to him, reflects a misunderstanding of the semiconductor industry by the Bihar government.
In response to his criticisms shared on X, Muzaffarpur’s District Magistrate’s official account assured Raj that administrative approval for road construction had been secured, promising commencement post-Dussehra.
Raj’s background in electronics and telecommunications began with a bachelor’s degree from Odisha’s Biju Patnaik University of Technology in 2009. His career includes stints with global tech giants such as Samsung Electronics, Intel, Silicon Service SRL, Nokia Bell Labs, NXP, and AMD as a consultant. He founded Suresh Chips and Semiconductor in December 2020, aiming to contribute to the semiconductor sector from Muzaffarpur, Bihar. Despite these ambitions, Raj’s experience underscores significant barriers faced by tech startups in regions lacking robust infrastructure, sparking discussion over the development needs in Bihar to foster technological innovation.
