Unraveling the Manipur Conflict: A Crucial Community Clash Beyond Central Authority – Kiren Rijiju Speaks Out
In a recent discussion, Mrinal Talukdar questioned, “For over 70 years, the Congress has humiliated BR Ambedkar, along with scheduled castes and tribes. Why is the Congress now trying to deceive these groups again?” In response, Kiren Rijiju provided insights into the historical treatment of Ambedkar by the Congress. Rijiju emphasized the need for conviction when speaking about Ambedkar, acknowledging his pivotal role as the architect of the Indian Constitution. He recalled the pre-Independence efforts to undermine Ambedkar’s quest for social justice, mentioning an incident where Mahatma Gandhi urged Jawaharlal Nehru to include Ambedkar in the cabinet, resulting in Ambedkar being appointed as the first Law Minister and chairman of the drafting committee.
However, Rijiju pointed out that Ambedkar resigned after about a year and a half due to frustration, which eventually led him to abandon Hinduism and adopt Buddhism. Rijiju accused the Congress of persistently eroding Ambedkar’s legacy and indicated plans to write a book detailing these allegations. He further highlighted that Ambedkar was only awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1990, suggesting delayed recognition for his contributions. This narrative sheds light on the alleged historical neglect of Ambedkar by the Congress and raises questions about their current approach towards marginalized communities.
