Shocking Ban: Hyderabad Police Crack Down on DJs and Firecrackers During Sacred Processions
Hyderabad Imposes Ban on High-Decibel DJ Sound Systems and Firecrackers During Religious Processions
Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand has announced a ban on DJ sound systems and firecrackers during all religious processions in the city. This decision followed a round table discussion held on September 26, 2024, involving religious procession organizers, political representatives, and government departments, addressing concerns raised by citizens during recent Ganesh immersion and Milad-un-Nabi processions.
According to the notification dated September 30, 2024, the prohibition includes high-decibel mobile speakers, amplifiers, and other sound-generating equipment. Permissible sound systems will now operate under strict decibel limits to curb noise pollution. Specifically, residential areas will have limits of 55 decibels during the day and 45 decibels at night, while silence zones will set at 50 decibels by day and 40 by night.
For industrial areas, the daytime limit is 75 decibels, and 70 at night. Commercial areas are capped at 65 decibels during the day and 55 at night. Additionally, a ban on the use of loudspeakers, public address systems, and DJ systems from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. has been instituted. Event organizers and equipment dealers must obtain police clearance to comply with these new regulations.
Violations of these orders will result in penalties under various legal frameworks, including the Hyderabad City Police Act, the Environment Protection Act, and the Hyderabad City Loudspeakers Rules.
The directive underscores the city’s commitment to reducing noise pollution and ensuring public peace during religious events.
