Urgent Update: Adre Grade III Positions Announced Amid Mobile Net Suspension and Heightened Security in Guwahati
Guwahati: Security Tightened and Procedures Enhanced for Assam Grade-III Recruitment Exams
Guwahati: The Assam government conducted the written examinations for Grade-III posts across the state on Sunday, implementing stringent security measures to prevent malpractices. These arrangements included an eight-hour suspension of mobile internet services and extensive frisking protocols. Over 734,000 candidates were eligible for the Assam Direct Recruitment Examinations (ADRE) second phase, which focused on both bachelor degree-level and HSLC-level posts.
The exams for bachelor’s degree qualifications took place in the morning, while those for HSLC qualifications were scheduled for the afternoon. To ensure transparency and fairness, candidates arrived hours before the start time for thorough checks, as stipulated by the State Level Recruitment Commission (SLRC). Candidates were given detailed instructions on verifying exam center locations in advance and were advised to report at least ninety minutes before the exams began.
Following previous allegations of improper conduct during the first phase, the home and political department issued a new standard operating procedure (SOP) for frisking. This came after an incident where a female security personnel was accused of inappropriate contact during frisking, prompting a probe initiated by DGP GP Singh on the directives of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
To address these concerns, separate enclosures for female candidates were established, and Anganwadi or accredited social health activists (ASHA) were present at frisking areas. Metal detectors were widely used, but where manual frisking occurred, utmost priority was given to candidates’ modesty.
At an exam center in Guwahati, candidate Krishnakshi Sarma remarked on the enhanced security measures. "The women candidates at my center were checked both manually and using metal detectors. We were called one by one and frisked in a closed room by women police personnel. We felt safe and comfortable during the checking," she said.
So far, no incidents of irregularity have been reported, and the process was conducted smoothly.
