Urgent Plea: West Bengal Junior Doctors Demand Justice in Dialogue with Chief Minister Over Unmet Demands
Junior Doctors Continue Protest Over Unresolved Demands in Kolkata
The West Bengal Junior Doctors Front remains steadfast in its protest following the brutal rape and murder of a fellow doctor at a Kolkata hospital. The group has called for another meeting with the state Chief Secretary to address unresolved demands, despite partial progress made in discussions with the government.
In a recent meeting on Tuesday, the state government acceded to several demands, notably the removal of Kolkata’s police chief and two senior health officials. However, the Junior Doctors Front stated that these actions only partially satisfy their five-point list of demands.
A press release issued by the Front on Tuesday detailed the challenges encountered during their protests. The statement highlighted attempts to politicize their cause, false accusations of seeking power rather than justice, and efforts to create divisions among them through emails and audio clips.
Despite a lengthy discussion with the Chief Minister, the doctors expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s response. They acknowledged some demands were met but emphasized that critical concerns remain unresolved, necessitating further dialogue.
Moreover, the Junior Doctors Front criticized aspects of the proposed "Aparajita Act," particularly provisions that would halt night shifts for doctors. They argue these measures could negatively impact healthcare delivery and undermine the medical profession.
The unfolding situation sees the Junior Doctors Front awaiting a response from the state government for renewed dialogue to ensure comprehensive resolution of their concerns.
