Tripura State Rifles Honor Tradition with Unique Vishwakarma Puja Celebration
Agartala, Sept. 17: Soldiers of the Tripura State Rifles (TSR) infused Vishwakarma Puja with a distinctive custom at their 3rd Battalion headquarters in RK Nagar on Tuesday. The troops showcased a unique tradition by paying homage to their arms and ammunition, seeking the divine blessings of Lord Vishwakarma for their weaponry.
In a sacred ritual, weapons were prominently displayed before an idol of Lord Vishwakarma, the revered deity of creation, architecture, and craftsmanship. A priest performed a ceremonial blessing, reciting mantras and adorning the equipment with flowers, invoking divine grace for use in various operations and law enforcement duties.
"Every year, during Vishwakarma Puja, we worship our arms and ammunition," explained Naib Subedar Jahar Lal Das. "This tradition seeks Lord Vishwakarma’s blessings to ensure our weapons function optimally when needed. Additionally, we also bless our vehicles, electrical equipment, and machinery during this time."
Vishwakarma Puja is widely celebrated across Tripura, particularly among those in engineering and skilled trades. Vishwakarma, known as the divine carpenter and master craftsman in Hindu mythology, is honored for his role in fashioning the weapons of the gods. Typically, engineers and local craftsmen partake in the festivities, but the TSR’s unique practice of worshipping arms and ammunition adds a remarkable dimension to the celebration.
