Shock and Outrage: Air Force Wing Commander Faces Rape Accusation, Secures Pre-Arrest Bail Amid Career Jeopardy
The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has granted pre-arrest bail to an Indian Air Force (IAF) Wing Commander accused of rape by a woman officer, citing potential damage to his reputation and career. The court stated that his arrest could jeopardize his service and personal standing. Furthermore, the court has instructed police not to file a chargesheet without its permission, although the investigation will proceed.
Court directives include the accused remaining within the Union Territory unless permitted by his commanding officer, and reporting to the investigative officer from September 14 to 16, or as required. Interaction with prosecution witnesses has been prohibited.
The accusations stem from an incident on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2023, when the 26-year-old female officer alleges the Wing Commander coerced her into oral sex and molested her. She claimed that upon being invited to his room under the pretense of receiving a gift, she was assaulted despite her repeated attempts to resist and eventual escape. She reported feeling discouraged from raising the issue earlier due to previous instances of non-action. Post-incident, the accused reportedly showed no remorse and continued to interact with her as usual.
A senior police officer confirmed that an FIR under relevant legal sections was lodged at Budgam police station. The Indian Air Force has assured full cooperation with the investigation.
Key developments include court restrictions on the chargesheet filing, non-travel advisories for the accused, and ongoing cooperation between the IAF and local police. The investigation remains active, upholding the serious nature of the complaint filed.
