Shocking Parliament Security Breach: Court Deliberates on Neelam Azad’s Crucial Bail Decision
New Delhi: Delhi Court Reserves Bail Order for Accused in Parliament Security Breach Case
A Delhi court on Monday reserved its decision regarding the bail application of Neelam Azad, one of the six accused in the Parliament security breach incident that occurred last December. Additional Sessions Judge Hardeep Kaur is expected to deliver the verdict on September 11 after hearing arguments from both the prosecution and the defense.
During the proceedings, Azad’s counsel argued that she was not involved in the incident, claiming that she is being falsely implicated. According to her lawyer, the primary culprits were Manoranjan D and Sagar Sharma, who allegedly jumped into the well of Parliament and threw smoke canisters. Azad was reportedly not present in the Parliament when the incident occurred on December 13, 2023.
The prosecution, however, opposed the bail plea, asserting that Azad is part of a broader criminal conspiracy. "There is substantial evidence and adequate material against the accused that show her involvement in the offence, invoking provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act [UAPA]," the prosecutor stated.
The court had previously acknowledged the supplementary chargesheet filed by the police under UAPA on August 3. Additionally, the judge extended the judicial custody of all accused—Azad, Manoranjan, Sharma, Amol Dhanraj Shinde, Lalit Jha, and Mahesh Kumawat—until October 16.
