Mukul Sangma Blasts Government Over Shocking Vacancy Neglect
Opposition Leader Mukul Sangma Criticizes Meghalaya Government Over Job Recruitment Delays and Irregularities
Shillong, August 27 – Opposition TMC leader Mukul Sangma on Tuesday sharply criticized the Meghalaya State government for halting the recruitment process for sanctioned posts across various government departments. He questioned the government’s motives behind delaying the filling of these vacancies during the State Assembly session.
Sangma highlighted an instance involving a government school in Ampati where a fixed pay of Rs 30,000 was advertised against a sanctioned post, labeling it illegal and a form of deprivation. Citing Supreme Court judgments, he denounced such practices as "legal robbery."
He accused the government of intentionally ignoring appeals to address the vacancy issue, emphasizing the detrimental impact on various sectors like health, education, Public Works Department (PWD), and police. Sangma pointed to the shrinking size of the SF 10 battalion as an example of the workforce reduction strategy.
Expressing concerns over the integrity of the recruitment process, he referred to the controversies surrounding the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) results and instances where entire families passed the District Selection Committee (DSC) results in East Garo Hills.
Sangma also criticized the shift in contract work distribution post-2018, noting that small contractors and emerging entrepreneurs now find it difficult to qualify for tenders due to the consolidation of projects into large packages. This change, he stated, has excluded young local entrepreneurs from opportunities.
Additionally, Sangma addressed the misuse of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) funds, pointing out that planting materials meant to benefit local communities were sourced from Assam, thus depriving locals of economic opportunities.
He called for honesty and collaboration to tackle unemployment, urging serious discussions beyond mere debates to find real solutions.
In closing, Sangma urged the government to restore trust in the recruitment system and ensure fair opportunities for job seekers and small contractors alike.
