Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Elections: Special Polling Stations Set for Kashmiri Migrants
The 90 assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir will undergo elections in three phases starting September 18, with votes counted on October 4. The Election Commission (EC) has established 24 special polling stations in Jammu, Udhampur, and New Delhi to accommodate Kashmiri migrants, according to Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Pandurang K Pole.
Kashmiri migrants in Jammu and Udhampur no longer need to fill out Form-M, a requirement during the Lok Sabha elections. These voters, residing in various relief camps, can vote in person using Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) at the designated polling stations—19 in Jammu, 1 in Udhampur, and 4 in Delhi.
The draft roll extracts mapping migrant electors to their respective polling stations will soon be published, allowing for updates over seven days. The final electoral rolls will then be issued, enabling migrant electors to vote with their Election Photo Identity Card (EPIC) or any of 12 alternate photo IDs approved by the EC.
Migrants outside Jammu and Udhampur can self-certify Form-M rather than seeking attested documentation. Those needing Form-M should provide details to designated election officials. Furthermore, migrant voters who do not intend to vote in person can opt for postal ballots.
This arrangement, following a historic decision made during the Lok Sabha elections, aims to facilitate smooth voting for displaced Kashmiri migrants.
