Government Mobilizes Over 1,000 Employees for Wayanad Landslide Relief
Forest Department officers successfully rescued children from a landslide-affected area in Wayanad district. According to an announcement from Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s office on August 4, over 1,000 government employees are actively involved in disaster management and relief operations in the landslide-hit regions. The efforts are being coordinated round-the-clock by the Civil Station in Kalpetta and a temporary control room set up in Chooralmala.
The government workforce, organized into 15 teams, is overseeing various critical tasks, including search and rescue operations, distribution of relief materials, food, and medicines, as well as providing counselling. They are also managing technical teams, relief camps, and medical aid for landslide victims. Additionally, these teams are responsible for collecting information on missing persons, proper waste disposal, and data management.
Specialized teams have been assigned to handle bodies recovered from the landslide sites. Their responsibilities include the identification and handover of bodies to family members, cremation of unclaimed bodies, and managing paperwork related to autopsies. The Chief Minister’s office emphasized that these teams are filing daily reports on their activities to the State government.
