Heartbreaking Surge: Death Toll from Suspected Chandipura Virus in Gujarat Rises to 48
NEW DELHI, July 27 (Xinhua) — The death toll from the suspected Chandipura virus in the western Indian state of Gujarat has climbed to 48, according to local health officials. An increase in Chandipura virus cases has been noted over the past several weeks.
A health official confirmed, “So far, 48 people have died due to Acute Encephalitis Syndrome in Gujarat over the last month, a majority of whom are suspected to be due to the outbreak of Chandipura virus.” This statement highlights the severity of the situation in the region.
Gujarat’s Health Minister, Rushikesh Patel, reported that there are a total of 133 confirmed cases of Chandipura virus currently registered in the state. The federal health ministry of India has identified Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) as a condition characterized by similar neurological symptoms caused by various pathogens, including viruses, bacteria, fungi, parasites, and toxins.
This rising number of cases and fatalities has raised concerns among health officials and the public, emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance and preventive measures to curb the outbreak’s spread. Authorities are likely to implement additional health interventions to address this public health challenge effectively.
