Bomb Threats in Imphal Spark Sit-In Protests
Imphal: A tense Saturday unfolded in Imphal East and West districts of Manipur after two bombs were discovered at separate locations, triggering widespread sit-in protests. According to police reports, the bombs were intended as threats, and citizens swiftly organized peaceful protests against such criminal activities.
The first device, a grenade, was found at the residence of Haobijam Baliadas, a 56-year-old Executive Engineer of the Rural and Engineering Department, located in Thangapat, Imphal East. The discovery was made early in the morning, around 5 am, by a team from the state’s bomb detection and disposal squad, following a tip-off from the Manipur police headquarters.
The second bomb, another grenade, was discovered several hours later at about 11 am. It was hanging on the iron gate of Warokpam Ganeshore, the 54-year-old Managing Director of Imphal Finance, located in Chingamakha Tomal Karak, Imphal West.
Both explosive devices were safely neutralized and disposed of at a designated dumping site in the Imphal West district. Although the exact motive behind these threats remains unclear, initial suspicions suggest they may be linked to monetary demands. No individual or group has yet claimed responsibility for the planting of the bombs.
In response to these threats, residents of various areas in Imphal East and West districts organized sit-in protests, calling for a resolution through dialogue. Protesters appealed to those behind the threats to address their grievances through peaceful means rather than resorting to violence.
The police have registered two cases and are actively investigating the incidents. This news has heightened concern among citizens, emphasizing the need for vigilance and collective efforts to maintain peace and security in the region.
The situation remains fluid as authorities continue their investigation to unearth the perpetrators behind the chilling threats and ensure the safety of all residents.
