Shocking Clash: Brave Police Confront Ruthless Cattle Mafia in Assam’s Tense Indo-Bangladesh Border Skirmish
A significant police operation unfolded on the night of July 17 at West Gaikhowa on the India-Bangladesh border in Golakganj. Earlier in the day, Golakganj police had apprehended Sirajul Haque, a notorious figure in cow smuggling circles. However, the situation escalated dramatically when Sirajul Haque attempted to flee during a police escort to West Gaikhowa. During the ensuing confrontation, Haque attacked the police, prompting them to open fire, which resulted in Haque sustaining injuries.
Simultaneously, the issue of cattle smuggling remains rampant in the Dhubri district. On the same date, a noteworthy bust occurred at Chagolia on the Assam-Bengal border. The police intercepted a vehicle transporting smuggled cattle, leading to the rescue of 46 animals. Acting on a tip-off, Chagolia police conducted a thorough search of the vehicle, which was en route from Bihar to Dhubri via Bengal.
This operation resulted in the arrest of four individuals, all identified as active participants in the smuggling racket. The suspects include Shahidul Islam and Akhtar Hussain from Barpeta Road, Samad Ali from Barpeta Town, and Mozammil Hussain from Nalbari. Additionally, the police seized an ultra truck loaded with the contraband cattle, registered under the number AS-28-AC-0508.
The swift and decisive action of the Golakganj and Chagolia police reflects their ongoing commitment to curbing illegal activities along the border.
