Supreme Court Crushes ‘Fake Excise Case’: AAP Celebrates; BJP Insists CM Still Under Scrutiny
The Supreme Court’s interim bail order for Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has ignited fresh political debates. AAP leaders heralded the decision as a blow to the “so-called liquor scam” orchestrated by the BJP. AAP’s Sandeep Pathak emphasized that the court found no evidence of any transactions or recovery of money, asserting that Kejriwal and AAP were not involved in corruption. Pathak further stated that the Supreme Court questioned the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) intentions, indicating potential bias.
In contrast, the BJP dismissed claims of exoneration, arguing that interim bail does not clear Kejriwal of his alleged crimes. BJP leader Virendra Sachdeva questioned Kejriwal’s entitlement to his official perks, citing the bail conditions that restrict his access to the Chief Minister’s office and official documents. The ED had previously labeled Kejriwal as the “kingpin” in the scrapped excise policy case in their chargesheet.
Senior AAP leader Atishi echoed Pathak’s sentiments, labeling the ongoing investigations and alleged “witch-hunt” against AAP leaders as a BJP conspiracy. Meanwhile, Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav stated that the party would await the Supreme Court’s final ruling while pledging to expose the alleged corruption and administrative failures of Kejriwal’s government ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
Kejriwal was apprehended by the ED on March 21 over money laundering allegations concerning an excise policy that has since been repealed. The ongoing legal battle continues to fuel the political fray in Delhi, with each party leveraging the situation to advance their narrative amid heightened public scrutiny.
