AASU Blasts Government Over Devastating Roads and Floods in Guwahati | Shocking Criticism Unveiled
AASU Protests Against Negligent Govt Policies in Guwahati
Guwahati: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) conducted a protest in Guwahati on Tuesday to denounce the Assam state government’s disregard for persistent issues like artificial floods, open drains, poor road conditions, and haphazard construction activities in the city. The protest, led by over 400 members of the Kamrup (Metro) district unit of AASU, took place in the Uzanbazar area during the afternoon.
Rupam Kumar Das, part of the central executive of the students’ union, criticized the state government’s lackadaisical approach and accused it of ignoring the problems faced by the city’s residents. “The government only responds when a mishap or an accident takes place,” Das alleged. He emphasized that inadequate drainage systems lead to recurrent artificial floods, causing significant suffering for the common people each year. Additionally, he highlighted the dire conditions of city roads, making daily travel a challenge.
In related news, it has been reported that floods in Assam, particularly in the Morigaon and Kamrup districts, have had a positive impact on soil fertility and crop yields, notably benefiting Boro rice cultivation. Despite facing challenges like reduced rainfall, villagers have adapted to coexist with floods. This underscores the importance of infrastructure improvements, such as irrigation systems, to sustain agricultural prosperity in the region.
This protest by AASU brings to light the urgent need for the state government to address these fundamental civic issues to ensure a safe and livable environment for the people of Guwahati.
